On Monday, entertainment star Olubankole Wellington (Banky W) swept the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries for the Lagos Eti-Osa Federal constituency.
Banky W won the primaries by a landslide, receiving 28 of the 31 votes cast by delegates.
According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), the delegates included 31 PDP Adhoc members and one national delegate.
Mr Sam Aiboni, a law practitioner, ran against Banky W and received three votes.
Mr Ayodele Kazeem, the Returning Officer who announced the results, hailed the procedure as peaceful and open.
Banky W told NAN that the poll was free and fair and that he won the election by the grace of God and the people’s choice.
He expressed his gratitude to the party for giving him the opportunity to represent it, as well as the people.
“I am overwhelmed by the support of my constituency, the people, the ward chairmen, the leaders and chieftains of the party; I sense the support even from the grassroots,” he remarked.
Banky went on to say that he has a message, a vision, and a mandate to improve things in the constituency, which he plans to accomplish through openness, accountability, and service.
“The real work begins now, the primaries are just the start and thankfully, we have the grace of God with us; we move,” he added.
Rep. Babajide Obanikoro, son of former Minister of State for Defence, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, will be fighting Banky W for the seat in the APC’s upcoming primaries.
